The language assessment (FLRA) waives the general language requirement for students who are already competent in oral, reading, and written skills in another language at or above the intermediate level.
It does NOT provide academic credit. The assessment only waives the general education language requirements on your degree plan.
*PLEASE NOTE: There is NO guarantee of an approved examiner to administer the exam for languages NOT offered in the Modern Languages Department.
How much does the exam cost?
Effective January 1, 2025, the fee for the FLRA will be set at $150 for students who choose to waive the language requirement in any available language. Please be aware that the assessment fee must be paid before scheduling your appointment. To easily arrange your exam, simply click the “Schedule Exam” button on the left-hand side of this page. We're here to help you succeed!
How do I schedule the FLRA?
Once payment is completed, the Testing Center staff will proactively contact the examiner for your chosen language, who will then reach out to you to schedule your examination. The FLRA form will be returned to the Testing Center and we will ensure that the form is processed promptly with your academic adviser.
Who should pursue an FLRA interview/form?
Students who are proficient speakers of a foreign language, generally at an advanced level in speaking, reading, and writing, are well-prepared to fulfill their general education language requirement.
