The Office of Career Development for Engineers and Scientists (CDES) serves all OU Engineering students of Gallogly College of Engineering, Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy, and the Polytechnic Institute by providing students support and professional development opportunities. By cultivating essential career readiness and leadership skills and facilitating career and campus connections, we help them prepare for successful futures beyond graduation. Through this focused guidance, students develop not only technical competence, but also, the professionalism and collaborative spirit necessary to navigate the transition from the classroom to a professional career.
Our goal is to guide students in professional development and career-readiness competencies from the beginning of their college experience through graduation. We provide students with a flexible roadmap that lets them chart their own path, while doing so with intention, confidence, and readiness to step into the next phase of their journey: their career.

The Jerry Holmes Leadership Program for Engineers and Scientists (JHLP), directed by CDES co-director Kim Wolfinbarger, takes a pillar-based approach to help students grow across five domains: personal development, interpersonal relationships, management and teamwork, leadership, and intercultural competence.
