NORMAN, OK — The University of Oklahoma has named Professor Yang Hong a recipient of the prestigious George Lynn Cross Research Professorship, the university’s highest honor for research and creative activity. The distinguished professorship recognizes faculty members who have demonstrated exceptional and sustained excellence in scholarship, placing them among the institution’s most accomplished researchers. Recipients are selected based on their national and international impact, scholarly productivity, and contributions to advancing knowledge.
Hong is an internationally recognized leader whose seminal contributions span satellite precipitation science, remote sensing hydrology, and hydrologic hazard prediction. His work has advanced the integration of Earth observation and hydrologic modeling to improve understanding and prediction of water-related hazards at regional to global scales.
He is a Web of Science Highly Cited Researcher, with more than 45,000 citations and an h-index of 101, underscoring his broad and sustained influence across disciplines. His interdisciplinary efforts have also advanced education and workforce development through the University of Oklahoma’s Hydrology and Water Security program, which has been recognized among the nation’s top online graduate programs.
