Dr. Doga Demirel is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Virtual Reality, Interactive Simulation, and Biomedical (VRISB) Lab in the School of Computer Science at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Demirel received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2018, an M.Sc. in Applied Computing from the University of Central Arkansas in 2015, and a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2013.

Dr. Demirel’s research interests lie in designing, developing, assessing, and utilizing real-time medical and interactive simulations. Within this domain, he leverages various technologies such as computer graphics (including Virtual Reality), Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, and Human-Computer Interaction (including Haptics) to enhance the field of medical simulation and interactive experiences. He has published over 60 papers in reputable international journals and conferences. In 2022, Dr. Demirel received the Excellence in Research award from Florida Polytechnic University. He recently received best paper awards at the 2023 IEEE International Conference on Bioinformatics and Bioengineering (BiBE) and the 2024 IEEE VR International Workshop on eXtended Reality for Industrial and Occupational Support (XRIOS).
