Openings
AMDL is growing and we are striving to attract outstanding students and postdocs/visitors. We highly encourage underrepresented minorities, female students, individuals with disabilities, and veterans to join AMDL. The currently available positions are as follows:
Postdocs and Visiting researchers
Postdoctoral fellows and visiting scientists interested in materials characterization, additive manufacturing, and machine learning are welcome to join AMDL. Please contact me at iman@ou.edu with the subject line “Postdoc/Visiting researcher position” and attach your CV and research statement.
Ph.D. students
We are currently recruiting for two Ph.D. positions. The first position focuses on the 3D printing of metallic alloys and their characterization using various electron microscopes. Applicants with a B.S. or M.S. degree in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering are encouraged to apply. While a background in physical metallurgy and characterization is not required, it will be considered a plus. The second position involves machine learning applications in additive manufacturing and materials development, where programming experience would be advantageous.
Successful candidates will have access to characterization and computation facilities at OU. Financial support will be provided through a Graduate Teaching/Research Assistantship, which includes covered tuition and a salary. If interested, please contact me at iman@ou.edu with the subject line “Ph.D. position application.” Be sure to indicate the specific position you are applying for and attach your CV, academic transcripts, and GRE/TOEFL/IELTS test scores.
Master's students
If you are interested in additive manufacturing of metals, machine learning, image processing, and materials characterization, please contact me at iman@ou.edu with the subject line “MS position application”. In your email, please indicate your research area of interest and attach your CV, academic transcripts, and GRE/TOEFL/IELTS test scores.
Undergraduate students
If you like to learn what an authentic research experience is and prepare yourself for a graduate research environment, we are excited to help you at AMDL. An undergraduate student will be constantly mentored by a graduate student or a postdoc and works on a project related to additive manufacturing of structural alloys, characterization of metallic materials using optical/electron microscopes, image processing, data analytics, or machine learning. Your work will be a small part of one of the ongoing projects at AMDL. This way, you have a good chance to be a co-author of a peer-reviewed paper. If this sounds interesting to you, contact me at iman@ou.edu or stop by my office.
High school students
If you are curious about what research in science and engineering looks like, we welcome you to explore it at AMDL. As a high school student, you will have the opportunity to shadow and assist a graduate student or postdoc on a project related to materials science, such as additive manufacturing, materials characterization, or even data analysis using techniques like machine learning. This is a great way to get hands-on exposure to a research lab environment and see if this field excites you for future studies. Contact me at iman@ou.edu or stop by my office if you're interested!
