An ftp: location is a "place" on a Server that has information that you will need! Think of an ftp: location as a "remote disk drive" where you can "put" and "get" information. Most ftp: locations will have some type of INDEX that tells you details about the files contained there.
WebStudy uses two ftp: locations to Upload and Download...,
When you Upload a file...,
You transfer a file from Your Machine to the Server.
When you Download a file..., You transfer it from
the Server to Your Machine.
ftp://WebStudy_Upload@www.occe.ou.edu/ password: olmstead |
ftp://WebStudy_Download@www.occe.ou.edu/ password: education |
You may use this location to exchange information with your classmates..., Do not give ANY WebStudy Passwords to "Just anybody"! Of course you can share the passwords with potential employers, close family members, friends you are trying to impress, or people you feel should share the WebStudy experience. PLEASE..., Use good judgement!
You should know that anyone with the password..., can Upload and Download to "both" of these ftp: locations.
There are many WebStudy students using this same location, for various reasons. With the password..., you have privilages that can destroy data. There are no protections against deleting (or writing over) someones else's files. Try very hard not "disturb" other peoples work.
The locations are provided for you to practice your data transfer exercises and assignments!

You will be able to see many examples of "appropriate filenames" when WebStudy actually begins!
