Internship experience can make a very valuable contribution to a student’s educational development, and students in the College of International Studies are strongly encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities when they become available. Under certain conditions, it is possible to earn academic credit for an internship in the Department of International and Area Studies. See more information and requirements at the links below.

CIS student interns assist the College of International Studies with special projects related to conferences, events, press and media preparation, and outreach to students. Students selected for the internship will enroll in IAS 3910 and write a 10-15 page research paper on a topic agreed upon with the course professor.

Rob Andrew is OU's former Diplomat in Residence and a former U.S. Foreign Service Officer.
Rob joined the Foreign Service in 2002. During his career with the State Department, Rob served overseas at U.S. Embassies in Mexico City, Mexico; Moscow, Russia; San Jose, Costa Rica; and Stockholm, Sweden, as will as domestic tours in the U.S. in Washington, D.C.; at U.S. Southern Command in Miami, Florida; and right here at OU as the Diplomat in Residence/State Department recruiter from 2014-2017. He retired in 2019 from the U.S. Government after more than 30 years of service as a U.S. diplomat and Army Officer.
Rob served as a U.S. Army Officer from 1989 to 2002. Among several stateside and overseas assignments, Rob fought in the First Gulf War (Desert Shield/Desert Storm) in 1991 in Iraq and Kuwait with the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, earning the Army Commendation Medal with “V” for valor device.
Although born in Norman, OK (!), Rob grew up in Chico in Northern California. He has a B.A. in Political Science from California State University, Chico and an M.A. in National Security Affairs from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.
