Professor Grillot joined the David L. Boren College of International Studies in July 2008 and has been on the faculty at the University of Oklahoma since January 1999.

Dr. Suzette Grillot served as the Dean of OU’s David L. Boren College of International Studies from July 2012 until January 2019. She was integrally involved in the College’s creation while serving as the CIS Associate Dean from 2008 to 2012. She also served as OU’s Vice Provost for International Programs and the William J. Crowe, Jr. Chair in Geopolitics.
As an administrator and academic leader, Dr. Grillot was responsible for creating and maintaining study abroad programs around the world – including the creation of three international studies centers in Italy, Brazil and Mexico. She also served thousands of international students at the University of Oklahoma, and lived within the international student community while serving as Faculty-in-Residence at Kraettli apartments from 2005-2009. Dr. Grillot also provided oversight for the College’s academic programs in the Department of International and Area Studies.
Dr. Grillot teaches a range of courses focusing on subjects such as the Global Community, Global Security, International Activism, Inequality and Activism, and Illicit Trafficking. Regarding her work with students, Dr. Grillot has been recognized with the Gary B. Cohen Distinguished Faculty Award, the Educator’s Leadership Academy Outstanding Professor Award and the OU President’s Distinguished Faculty Mentor Award.
Throughout her academic career, Dr. Grillot has published articles in the British Journal of Political Science, International Politics, Global Governance and Contemporary Security Policy, among many others. Selected book publications include the co-edited book Understanding the Global Community (2013) and the co-authored books Virtuous Journeys Abroad (2017), Protecting Our Ports: National and International Security of Containerized Freight (2010), and The International Arms Trade (2009).
In 2003, Dr. Grillot spent a semester teaching and conducting research in the Republic of Macedonia as a Fulbright Scholar. She also served a semester as a teaching and research fellow at Beijing University in China in 2007. During her time abroad, she has conducted research in dozens of countries in Europe, Asia and Latin America. In June 2012, Dr. Grillot returned from a 10-month appointment as Faculty-in-Residence at OU in Arezzo.
Dr. Grillot received BS (1990) and MA (1992) degrees in Political Science from Oklahoma State University and earned her PhD (1997) in Political Science from the University of Georgia.
