Mohammad Almasri is ConocoPhillips Associate Professor of Arabic Language, Literature and Culture with a joint appointment in the Department of International and Area Studies and the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Linguistics. Dr. Almasri received his PhD in linguistics from the University of Kansas and did his undergraduate work at the Yarmouk University in Jordan.
Prior to joining OU faculty, Dr. Almasri taught English as a second language and courses on phonetics and linguistics while in Jordan and also taught Arabic as a second language at the University of Kansas, the Alakhawayn Arabic Summer Intensive Program in Morocco, and also at the Hashemite University in Jordan. He worked as a lecturer and assistant professor at the Hashemite University, Jordan where he served as Chair of the Department of English language and literature and Director the Language Center.
Dr. Almasri’s research focuses primarily on the acoustic behavior of emphasis in Arabic, on lexical access and also on applications of this research on teaching Arabic as a second language. He currently teaches courses in advanced Arabic and topics in contemporary Arab culture.
