Dr. Huey Hawkins, Jr. earned his doctorate degree in clinical social work from the Institute for Clinical Social Work. His research and clinical interests focus on the intersection of culture, race, and the unconscious. His dissertation explored the unconscious messages of endangerment that mothers convey to their African American sons. With extensive clinical experience, Dr. Hawkins has a storied history of providing psychotherapy services to African American boys and men in various public and private settings, including his psychotherapy practice in St. Louis and Oklahoma City. He also served as a Core Faculty member at the Institute for Clinical Social Work prior to OU.

Dr. Hawkins enjoys teaching social work theory and practice classes to beginning social work students.
