Gena Roberts Massey has spent most of her career as a medical social worker. Her work has been varied; Ms. Massey has worked with adolescents struggling with substance use, birth and adoptive parents, abused and neglected children, pregnant women, neonates, children, premature infants, burn survivors and their families. In her tenure at Hillcrest Medical Center, Ms. Massey had the opportunity to help craft policies and procedures in order to improve patient care and quality of social work services received. She also served on the inaugural Clinical Pastoral Education steering committee and continued her service until her departure in 2008. Professor Massey joined the OU Faculty on the Tulsa campus in January 2008 and in 2009 was tasked with the creation of the Department of Social Services within the OU Tulsa Physicians Practice Plan. In 2010, she established the Health & Medical Field Unit for those practicum students interested in Medical Social Work. Professor Massey serves on the field committee and as faculty liaison for students placed in Health and Medical Sites. She annually offers an elective focusing on health and medical social work across the healthcare continuum. Finally, Professor Massey is dually licensed as a clinical and administrative social worker and is approved by the Oklahoma State Board of Licensed Social Workers to provide clinical and administrative supervision.
