A Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Austin brings over a decade of experience in child and adolescent mental health, and a strong emphasis on supporting undergraduate and graduate social work students in their practicum placements.
Throughout his career, Austin has worked extensively with elementary-aged children and their families, addressing a wide range of mental health, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. He has mentored and trained numerous OU students, including those in the PRIME grant program, preparing them for impactful careers in school-based social work.
His clinical background includes serving as a Therapist with Dayspring Community Services—embedded at Walt Whitman Elementary—and as a Social Services Specialist with Tulsa Public Schools at Kendall Whittier Elementary. His practice is rooted in cognitive and strengths-based/solution-focused behavioral therapies.
Since joining the University of Oklahoma in January 2021, Austin has played a key role in coordinating high-quality field education experiences and building strong community partnerships. In addition to his work as a Field Education Coordinator and Liaison, he has served for four years as Chair or Co-Chair of the OU-Tulsa Social Work Student Association and currently serves as Chair of the OU Social Work Social Media and Website Committee.
Beyond his academic and clinical responsibilities, Austin and his wife are former foster parents through the Oklahoma Department of Human Services and are the proud adoptive parents of five children. He is also the Owner and Founder of Oklahoma Licensure Supervision, a centralized resource hub offering accessible, high-quality clinical supervision services across the state. A Board Approved Clinical Supervisor since 2022, Austin is deeply committed to the growth and development of emerging social workers. Austin begins his term for the NASW Oklahoma Chapter as the East Region OK Director during the summer of 2025.
His research interests include school-based social work and clinical supervision. Austin is recognized as a dedicated leader in social work education, known for his mentorship, supervision expertise, and commitment to fostering student-centered, practice-ready professionals through innovative training and support initiatives.
