Professor Donno received her Ph.D. from Yale University and was previously a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh and University of Cyprus. Her book and related research on elections, international norms and electoral integrity examines how and why the international community responds to flawed elections, and how this influences prospects for democratization in autocratic and hybrid regimes. She has explored the effectiveness of international election monitoring, and in an ongoing research project, considers how autocratic and less-credible election monitors are shaping the contempary global landscape.

Professor Donno’s research agenda on women’s rights in authoritarian regimes examines how domestic institutions and international pressure both shape incentives for autocrats to pursue gender equality reforms. This project features a global dataset on the enactment of national legislation and policies related to women’s rights.

Her research on the global economy and international order has focused on questions related to human rights, trade agreements and membership in international organization.
