Profile:
Nicola Casagranda is originally from Northern Italy, from the multicultural and multilingual region of Trentino Alto-Adige (Südtirol). He joined the University of Oklahoma in 2018, and since 2020 he works as Second Year Spanish Coordinator. As coordinator and language instructor, he directs the 2000-level Spanish courses and teaches various courses at the undergraduate program.
In the initial part of his career, Nicola Casagranda started his undergraduate studies at the Università degli Studi di Trento, where he graduated with a dissertation on Luis Cernuda and his Surrealist period. Before joining the University of Oklahoma, Nicola taught Italian and French at the West Virginia University, where he also continued his graduate studies, focusing on both Second Language Acquisition (TESOL), and Spanish Literature.
His background and strong passion for languages, cultures, and literatures have always encouraged him to work and study in different countries, including Austria, France, Spain, and the United Kingdom. An essential part of Nicola Casagranda’s classes is to transmit his interests and passions to his students, mainly by exposing them to realia, cultural workshops and events, and by actively motivating them to travel abroad to discover the richness and diversity of the Hispanic cultures.
As coordinator, he aims to keep doing his best to promote and improve the Spanish program. He believes the Spanish section should continue to be an inclusive and very diverse community of practice, where every instructor and GTA is deeply valued and is welcome to share their ideas and to propose new activities for our students.
