Profile
Lavinia Teodoriu received her M.A. degree in German and English Philology from the Georg-August University of Göttingen, Germany, in 2008. She joined the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Linguistics as a German instructor in Fall 2016. She also holds the position of Assistant to the Graduate Liaison.
Originally from Romania, she moved to Germany where she lived for 16 years. In Germany, she taught German as a foreign language instructor at the Clausthal University of Technology. The classes addressed international students pursuing a German college degree as well as exchange college students within the European Erasmus / Socrates Student Exchange Program. After more than 11 years of teaching at the university, she accepted a teacher position at the Clausthal-Zellerfeld Lower Secondary and Middle School, where she taught German and English as a foreign language.
Her main interests lie in linguistics - in her Masters thesis she explored the use of idioms and phrases in order to create a staged negativity in advertising - and Second Language Acquisition, with a focus on the differences between adult and child learners.
At OU, Lavinia Teodoriu teaches beginning and intermediate courses. She has always been fascinated by languages (beside speaking Romanian, German and English, she is also familiar with French and Spanish), not only as means of communication, but as embodiment and reflection of someone’s spirit, culture, history and traditions. These beliefs are also her teaching principles as she guides her students through the fascinating and challenging process of learning a foreign language.
