Leanee Diaz Sardinas holds a B.A. in Hispanic Philology from the Universidad de La Habana, received a Ph.D. in North American Studies from the Universidad de Alcalá, Spain, in 2010, and a Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies from Texas A&M University in 2021. In the Fall of 2021, she joined the Modern Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics Department as a lecturer. This semester at OU she is teaching Latin American Cinema as well as beginning Spanish.

Her research agenda focuses on the relationship between Church and State. On this subject she has published "La autoría del Lazarillo contra la hegemonía de España” and “La fabricación de la leyenda madrileña del Cid Campeador.” Her current research explores the position of Protestants and the Catholic church as agents against allowing same-sex marriage in Cuba. Her research interests cover Latin American literature, culture, and cinema as well.

She was awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities Grant (NEH) in 2019. She also earned Texas A&M University’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2019 and the Hispanic Studies Graduate Student Teaching Excellence Award in 2018.
