Three Mellon Fellows Visiting in March and April

March 5, 2022

The Collections are expecting three visiting researchers in March and April.  All three will be using materials in the new Rudwick and Torrens archives, as well as from our print holdings in the history of geology.

Mellon Fellow Dr. Renee Clary arrives on Monday, March 7 for two weeks

Her project is on women participants in the early history of geology: "Early Women Participants in the History of Geology: Etheldred Bennett"

Clary is coming from Mississippi State University where she is a professor and the director of a geology museum. She is very active in the History of Geology Division of the Geological Society of America.

Mellon Fellow Tom Sharpe is planning to come in April for several weeks (author of the recent book Mary Anningnow in the Collections)

Tom plans to continue his research on Mary Anning while here on the project: “An Anning Compendium: The Life, Work, and Times of the Lyme Regis Fossilist Mary Anning (1799-1847)"

Tom is a well-known British historian of geology, and former geology curator for the National Museum of Wales, who is coming from Scotland.

Former Mellon Fellow & EOS Scholar Dr. Francesco Luzzini is coming in April. Francesco is well known to us, as he was a post-doc selected by UL to launch the Edition Open Sources platform back in 2015. Francesco is back in the States this year on a fellowship at Johns Hopkins and will make a side-trip here for a short visit.
