Applying to HES

Students interested in entering the HES undergraduate degree program must apply for matriculation into the upper-division HES core curriculum.

There are two application categories:

  • full admission
  • deferred admission

Students applying for full admission must meet the following criteria for eligibility:

  • 45 credit hours completed at the time of application; 60 credit hours completed at the time of admission
  • 2.75 combined retention and HES prerequisite GPAs
  • all prerequisite courses completed with a grade of "C" or better

To apply for deferred admission, students must meet the following criteria for eligibility:

  • 45 credit hours completed at the time of application; 60 credit hours completed at the time of admission
  • 2.75 combined retention and HES prerequisite GPAs
  • a grade of "C" or better in the completed prerequisite courses AND the unfulfilled prerequisite courses must be in progress at the time of application.

Students admitted on deferred status will be fully admitted to the HES program upon earning a grade of "C" or better in any in-progress prerequisite coursework and meeting all additional criteria for admission.

The application deadlines are set for the end (Friday at 5 p.m.) of the third week for the fall and spring semesters. Final admission to HES is a competitive process that is based on the following criteria: 1) prerequisite course GPA, and 2) combined retention GPA.

Students will be selected for admission from a pool of applicants who meet the eligibility requirements for application and have submitted all required HES application materials.

Please note that due to limited resources for this program not all students with a minimum 2.75 GPA are admitted. Depending on the number of applicants and the GPA distributions for the applicant pool, the minimum GPA required for consideration may not be competitive and does not guarantee admission.
