Daniela Garofalo specializes in British Romantic literature with an interest in the early British Victorian period and Lacanian theory. Her first book, Manly Leaders in Nineteenth-Century British Literature (SUNY, 2008), focuses on political theory and gender studies. Her second book, Women, Love, and Commodity Culture in British Romanticism (Ashgate, 2012), considers connections between economic theory, gender studies, and Lacanian theory. She is also the co-editor, with David Sigler, of Lacan and Romanticism (SUNY, 2019).
Prof. Garofalo has published essays on Jane Austen, Lord Byron, Thomas Carlyle, William Godwin, John Keats, and Emily Brontë. She teaches courses on Romantic and Victorian literature and critical theory.
Prof. Garofalo served as chair of the English department from May 2014 to June 2019 and is the recipient of two teaching awards, The Patten Teaching Award (CAS) 2012 and the 2020 Student Government Association Outstanding Faculty Award.
