Congressional and Political Collections

The Carl Albert Congressional Research and Studies Center houses the largest collection of political and congressional papers in the state of Oklahoma. The collections include the papers of 61 former members of congress, along with the papers of 25 political leaders, congressional staffers, and journalists.

Use the "Search the Finding Aids" button below to browse 100 years of American History, from Oklahoma's territorial days to the turn of the century, with the largest amount of materials created between the 1930s and the 1990s.

The Carl Albert Center also houses thousands of digital items, which are searchable by clicking the "Search the Digital Collections" button below.

In-Person Research and COVID-19 Precautions

The Carl Albert Center Congressional and Political Collections are open by appointment only until further notice.

The archivists are happy to consult with you on your research and provide virtual services as needed. We ask that you please consider placing a digitization order with us before visiting us to research in person. Please email cacarchives@ou.edu to contact the archivists about your research topic.

Please use the forms below to schedule a reading room appointment and to send our archivists a reference request. You will receive a response within 24 hours if the form is submitted during regular business hours. Please note we are only able to accommodate one researcher at a time in the reading room.

University policy requires visitors to wear face masks and observe social distancing while on campus. Non-OU patrons must complete the Norman Campus Visitor COVID-19 screening tool and be cleared to visit campus prior to visiting campus. Visit OU Together for current information about Norman campus operations.

In-person tours of the archives and the Speaker’s Office are suspended until further notice. The archivists can conduct both virtual tours of these spaces and virtual class visits via Zoom. Please email cacarchives@ou.edu for more information.
