Each year about 5,000 students, faculty, and staff unite in an unparalleled effort to say “thank you” to the central Oklahoma area for the support they show our university year round. Over 200 community organizations benefit from Big Event volunteers. Join us in our efforts to directly impact our community.
Students, faculty, and staff can register with student organizations, a group of friends, or even as an individual. Volunteer registration for The Little Event will open in the fall. Volunteer registration for The Big Event will open in January.
The Big Event will be held on Saturday, April 5th, 2025.
On the morning of the big day, volunteers head to their assigned community organization. The volunteers will be there from 10 AM to 2 PM, working on the projects the jobsite has planned.
Volunteers participate in various community service projects such as painting, landscaping, trash pickup, and visiting with veterans and senior citizens.
Volunteers start their day at the Opening Ceremony on the North Oval and then serve at over 200 jobsites located throughout Oklahoma City, Norman, and the surrounding communities. You will be contacted in the weeks prior to The Big Event with details regarding your specific jobsite location.
The Big Event provides OU with the opportunity to say “thank you” to our surrounding community. By doing this, we are able to strengthen and deepen OU's relationship with the community. Numerous community organizations benefit from the services that dedicated volunteers provide. Last year, The Big Event was able to save our 200 jobsites a total of $600,000 in labor costs.

The Big Event requires at least 75% of volunteers signed up with a student organization to attend for the student organization to remain eligible to participate the following year. If you are unable to attend, please email bigevent@ou.edu with your name, group name, OU ID number, and reason for being unable to attend.
