My Sooner Legacy...
My parents graduated from OU, meaning I grew up as a huge OU fan. Graduating from this university means fulfilling the dreams of my eight-year-old self, and furthering the family legacy my parents created along with my little sister, who is finishing her freshman year as I prepare to walk across the graduation stage.

Why OU

I chose the University of Oklahoma because of the people. I toured countless campuses, but nowhere felt like home until I got to Norman. The university was big enough that I could grow, but so well connected that I would never feel invisible.

What my degree means

I am creating better opportunities for myself and bettering generations to come. Every generation of my family has created a better life for those that came after them. I hope to do the same. Earning this degree is the first step in being able to do exactly that.

The Best Lesson OU Gave Me

During my time here, I had to learn how to come out of my shell. In high school, I was a very outgoing person without a shy bone in my body. Once I came to OU, I was intimidated by the number of students and became shy in response. During my sophomore and junior year, I was given the opportunity to serve as Vice President of Inclusivity on the Panhellenic Executive Council. This position required me to give a presentation to all 11 sorority chapters at OU. As the presentations grew closer, my nerves were at an all-time high. Speaking during my class of 30 was scary enough, how would I stand in front of 3,000 members within one week? My first presentation was nerve-racking and honestly, quite scary. But each presentation turned easier, and after my fourth, I enjoyed sharing my message. Without this experience, I would not be as confident in myself, nor would I have made the connections I did while at OU.

Preparing for life after graduation

OU gave me countless opportunities to expand my job-specific skills and apply what I learned in the classroom to the real world. For example, in my supply chain strategies course, we worked on a project for the Walmart Distribution Center in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Through this, we communicated with managers, received and analyzed real data, and suggested changes that will be applied within their freezer, deli, and dairy department.

What comes next

I will be working at First United Bank in Norman as a commericial credit analyst and a member of the ElevateU rotational program. My homebase will be as a credit analyst, where I will be underwriting commerical loan contracts. Within the program, I will periodically rotate through departments within the bank to gain a holistic understanding of banking operations. During my undergrad, I found an internship opportunity at First United Bank through OU's Handshake website. It eventually grew into this full-time position offer!
