Although the University of Oklahoma community could not gather in person, it still joined together online to celebrate the Class of 2020 during the commencement ceremony on May 8.
The university aimed to make this celebration as personal and meaningful as possible for the graduates. Students received celebration boxes in the mail complete with diploma holders, glow sticks, and confetti launchers, and could have individual recognition slides built. The deans of each academic college also recorded messages for their students, while a group of faculty and staff chalked every graduate’s name on the sidewalks outside of Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, where commencement is traditionally held.
Four of the newest OU alumni, Leanne Ho, Emily Humphreys, Glenn Medina, and Peter Reilly, talked about their experiences as Sooners and what's next now that they've earned their undergraduate degrees, while others shared videos about how OU has prepared them for the future.
