Aerospace engineers design and build the planes that make international travel possible and the spacecraft’s that have allowed astronauts to explore the universe. Led by our award-winning faculty with a philosophy of experiential learning, students gain understanding of aerodynamics, aerospace structures, propulsion systems and flight controls. Students use resources such as the state-of-the-art technology and equipment in the Robotics Lab, the L. A. Comp Wind Tunnel, and the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Shop during their time in the Gallogly College of Engineering.
OU’s aerospace engineering program is the first in the nation with an emphasis on multidisciplinary Intelligent Aerospace Systems. This forward-thinking concept provides students with the advanced-technology background necessary to work in today’s high-tech aerospace industries. The program also ensures that students are equipped to become lifelong learners, utilizing and building upon engineering and scientific principles as they progress in their careers.
Aerospace engineering students typically have interests in:
High school preparation should include math and physical science courses.
OU aerospace engineering students develop skills through experiential learning by practicing what is learned in the classroom through real world experiences. Students are tutored and mentored by upper-classmen with opportunities to expand horizons through study abroad. With accomplished faculty and expert guest speakers, students are empowered through professional development and receive competitive advantages in pursuing future careers. Aerospace engineering graduates are in high demand, sought after by industries, major corporations, small businesses, start-up software companies, government agencies, and universities.
