OU School of Aviation Flying Options Full for Fall 2024 Freshmen

Due to unprecedented market interest in the field of aviation, the OU School of Aviation has filled its flying option program for Fall 2024 freshmen. Spaces were filled on a first-come, first-served basis according to date of enrollment deposit.

The College of Atmospheric & Geographic Sciences offers a bachelor’s degree with a major in Aviation that can help you achieve your career goals. The Bachelor of Science with a Major in Aviation is designed for students who want to take the first step toward a career in Aviation. OU offers four concentrations for students to consider.

  • Aviation Management - Air Traffic Management Concentration
  •
  • Aviation Management - Flying Concentration
  •
  • Aviation Management - Non-Flying Concentration
  •
  • Professional Pilot Concentration

For Professional Pilot and Aviation Management - Flying Applicants

If you’re planning to choose the Professional Pilot or Aviation Management – Flying concentration, you should apply as close to or on August 1 to increase your potential for a flight slot. Flight major applications are accepted during the fall term application timeframe only. Due to the limited number of flight slots OU has each fall, the demand for one of these slots is great.

First-Time Freshmen

Incoming freshmen interested in applying to our Professional Pilot or Aviation Management – Flying concentration programs must apply to OU during their high school senior year to be considered for a spot within the program. The OU application for admission opens Aug. 1 for Fall 2024. Students must submit and complete their application with all the supporting materials, be admitted, and pay their $250 enrollment deposit after admission. Due to unprecedented market demand and in an effort to guarantee flight hours for our students, freshmen will be provided spots in the flying concentration programs for Fall 2024 as space is available.

Applications for our Professional Pilot and Aviation Management – Flying concentrations will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Freshmen who submit a completed application, are admitted, AND pay the $250 enrollment deposit will be considered for admission.

The first admitted freshmen for the Fall 2024 term with the intended major of Aviation: Professional Pilot or Aviation Management – Flying who pay OU’s $250 Enrollment Deposit before the program reaches capacity will be considered for a flight slot.  There is a limited number of flight slots available.  If you are notified you are being considered for a flight slot, you then are required to complete the program’s mandatory One Stop packet. Successful completion of the One Stop packet ensures your eligibility to start flying in either the fall, spring, or summer term of your first year. Aviation cannot guarantee up front which semester you will start flying.

Transfer Students

During the spring semester (2024), transfer students already admitted for the Fall 2024 term with the intended major of Aviation: Professional Pilot or Aviation Management - Flying will be notified directly of the process to commit to enrollment at OU.  The first admitted transfer students for Fall 2024 with these majors who complete OU’s commitment process will be considered for a flight slot. There is a very limited number of flight slots allotted for transfer students.

Note to incoming transfers:  The flight sequence typically requires, at minimum, six semesters to complete. The Aviation Management-Flying major usually requires six semesters of flying for degree completion while the Professional Pilot major requires eight semesters of flying for degree completion.

Aviation Flying Waitlist

Because of the limited number of flight slots each fall, as well as the very competitive nature of the process to receive a slot, OU maintains a waitlist for these spaces.  For Freshmen, those who pay their enrollment deposit after the program has reached capacity are notified of how to join the waitlist.  For Transfers, those who complete the commitment process after the program has reached capacity are also notified of how to join the waitlist. The School of Aviation cannot guarantee that any offers of flight slots from the waitlist will be made annually; getting off the waitlist depends on if eligible students choose later not to accept a flight slot. If space becomes available, you will be contacted the Office of Admissions and Recruitment (OAR) as they maintain the waitlist.  If you have any questions regarding the admission waitlist, please contact their office at admissions@ou.edu or 405-325-2151.

For Aviation Management – Non-Flying and Aviation Management – Air Traffic Management Applicants

If you are interested in an Aviation Management – Non-Flying or Air Traffic Management concentration, we encourage you to submit your application to OU for priority admission. These concentrations are not limited by space and are open to all students, including freshmen and transfer students.

Here are just a few reasons why OU is a smart and affordable choice for your aviation degree:

  • Once accepted into the program, you’ll be able to start flying as soon as possible within the program.
  • OU partners with several airlines across the country to offer pathway programs. These programs offer students the opportunity to work toward careers with some of the nation’s largest airlines, giving you an opportunity to get into the right seat of a commercial airline sooner.
  • OU subscribes to the highest standards of international aviation academic rigor, safety and quality standards.
  • Each concentration has a strong business focus, preparing students to succeed in the business world of aviation or other related jobs.
