U.S. Grant High School’s Gregoria “Goya” Arredondo recently was surprised in front of her entire senior class as the first person admitted to the University of Oklahoma Class of 2020.

Goya will be the first person in her family to attend a four-year university and is expected to graduate as U.S. Grant High School’s valedictorian. This emotional video tells an incredible story and celebrates Goya’s amazing academic achievement. 

Goya is expected to enroll at OU in August of 2016 and is still deciding between a degree in mathematics or biology. The dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Kelly Damphousse, participated in the letter delivery and is excited to welcome her into the college. Also present at the event was the dean of students, Clarke Stroud, as well as numerous representatives from OU’s office of Admissions and Recruitment.

Thanks to scholarships and an estimated federal grant package, we’ve ensured that Goya will be able to afford college.
