Sooner Weekend: Karaoke, ‘Dope’ and GLOW at the OKC Boathouse District

#SoonerWknd: Karaoke, ‘Dope’ and GLOW at the OKC Boathouse District

It’s every college student’s dream: a three-day (or perhaps four-day for some?) weekend. We’ve got five events to make it a great one.

Sept. 3-7

1. Hamburgers, a la College of Engineering

Fill up on Game Day, courtesy the OU College of Engineering. Between 3 and 6 p.m., head to Carson/Felgar Lawn off Asp Avenue and support the Engineers’ Club by getting a $7 hamburger meal (a burger, chips, beans, drink and candy). Vegetarians, rejoice: Veggie burgers are also on the menu.

2. GLOW in the Boathouse District

Take a trip up I-35 to Oklahoma City and catch a Friday sunset over the Oklahoma River from the Boathouse District. The district hosts GLOW, a lively evening of live music, food trucks, sand volleyball and paddle boats. And catch “Guardians of the Galaxy” when the sun goes down. The free event lasts from 6 to 10 p.m.

3. Karaoke at Opolis

Call us presumptuous, but we’re already practicing our rendition of Queen’s “We are the Champions” to celebrate Saturday’s win over Akron. Bring your best victory ballad to Opolis’ karaoke night Saturday. Doors open at 8. You can start belting it out at 10.

4. Take a trip to the Deli

You’ll find a full lineup of shows at the Deli this weekend, starting with Kierston White and Camille Harp’s free show from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Stick around for Return to the Underground at 10. Catch the Hosty Duo Friday night and squeeze an early show into your Saturday by seeing Annie Oakley from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

5. ‘Dope’ in Meacham Auditorium

Don’t want to stray far from campus this weekend? Well, you don’t have to, thanks to OU’s Union Programming Board. UPB has set you up with a free flick: “Dope.”  Catch it at 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and midnight Friday, or at 1 p.m. Saturday. Keep up with UPB’s events on its website!

Have an event you’d like promoted in #SoonerWknd? Upload it to the OU Campus Calendar here and it could be featured in an upcoming events roundup. Have questions about the calendar or events submissions? Reach out to Morgan Day at morgan.day@ou.edu.
