OU-Tulsa / Allied Health / Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences – Sonography
The sonography profession uses equipment that generates high-frequency sound waves to produce images of the human body. Graduates in sonography are in high demand, and this program prepares graduates to excel in a multitude of environments. The sonography program available at OU-Tulsa and is the only bachelor program in Oklahoma, as well as the only program with CAAHEP accreditation in the 4 learning concentrations: Abdomen, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Adult Echocardiography, and Vascular. Our pass rates on these exams are near 100%.
The demand for sonographers is fast growing, and provides a very competitive salary directly out of a bachelor’s degree program with opportunities for further growth in the healthcare field. Your qualifications to practice in the field transfer all across the U.S., allowing for flexibility in location. Our graduates are uniquely poised to enter administrative roles within their institutions or to take roles within manufacturing and marketing,with companies like GE, Philips, Siemens, Cannon, FUJIfilmSonosite.

The sonography program requires each student to obtain competencies in Abdominal Extended, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Adult Cardiac, and Vascular sonography. Students who graduate from this program are eligible to take the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography credentialing exams associated with each of these specialty areas 60 days prior to graduation.
The sonography program at OU-Tulsa is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs in all these disciplines.

The sonography program at OU-Tulsa has had a graduate become a member of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography Emerging Leaders Program every year since the program's inception in 2020. OU-Tulsa sonography graduates frequently win or place in the the prestigious W. Frederick Sample Student Excellence Literature Review Competition.
