LGBTQIA+ STUDENTS WELCOME

August 16  |  6:30 PM  |  Beaird Lounge, OMU

The LGBTQIA+ Student Welcome is a signature event designed to provide a warm, affirming, and inclusive space for first-year LGBTQIA+ students and their allies at OU. Hosted annually by the Queer Student Association during Camp Crimson, this event aims to help students start their OU journey feeling supported, seen, and connected.

It’s more than just an introduction to campus—it's a celebration of queer and trans identities, a chance to make meaningful connections, and an opportunity to explore the resources available to LGBTQIA+ students.

This year, the LGBTQIA+ Welcome had its largest turnout ever, with over 135 students joining us for an afternoon filled with community-building, learning, and pure queer joy. Attendees were able to meet other LGBTQIA+ students and allies, discover campus organizations, and learn about the resources that will help them thrive during their time at OU.

The overwhelming success of this event is a testament to the ongoing support from our campus partners, faculty, staff, and student leaders, whose collaboration and commitment have made OU a more inclusive and welcoming environment. Their dedication not only helped make this event possible, but it also reinforced the message that every student—no matter their identity—belongs here.

The booth staff, wearing purple "Pride on the Prarie" shirts, are interacting with visitors in a warm, rainbow-lit space, creating a welcoming and celebratory atmosphere.
