Board of Vistors

About Us   Events    Officers

The Board of Visitors for the school of social work was established in June 2000, by Julia Norlin PhD, former school Director. The Board consists of at least thirty and not more than fifty distinguished alumni, donors and friends of the school. New members are identified by the Board's nominating committee and appointed by the school's Director Dr. Roosevelt Wright. The board has met twice yearly but will begin meeting quarterly in 2005

The purpose of the Board is to:

  • Provide advice concerning community and professional needs, concerns, and projected responses to emerging and developing program in the school of social work
  • Provide advice and recommendations concerning specific curriculum modifications, research, and community service and demonstration projects proposed for implementation.
  • Serve as a resource for interpreting to the community the educational programs, resources and capabilities of the school.
  • Assist in identifying and developing community resources that may be utilized to support the educational, service and research activities of the School.

According to Sue Lunsford, Chairman of the Development Committee and Robert Lee, Treasurer, the Board initiated a campaign during June 2004, to raise funds for new furniture in three classrooms in Rhyne Hall. Dubbed the "Endowed Chairs" project, new chairs and study tables will be placed in classrooms 108, 109 and 115. The three rooms were redecorated in 2003 and room 115 was upgraded with new teaching technology to match the cosmetic improvements.

The "Endowed Chairs" project will cost approximately $35,000 - $40,000 to outfit the three rooms. A challenge gift of $15,000 was pledged by the Child Welfare Professional Enhancement Program, in partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. The challenge required that $10,000 be raised by August 1, 2004 and the remaining $10,000 by January 1, 2005. Effective early August 2004, the $20,000 total had been raised-the challenge met! Additional contributions and gifts received will be used to provide furniture for a fourth classroom B-116 A and B, lounge furniture and other items in Rhyne Hall.

Donors who provide a minimum gift of $300 will be listed as an "Endowed Chairs Donor" on a plaque to be placed in one of the classrooms. Donors can designate the listing to honor another person if they choose. These gifts should be directed to
