The shielded Paleomagnetics laboratory is used for paleomagnetic and rock-magnetic studies.
All machines can accommodate 2.2cm diameter rock cores or unconsolidated sediments. Samples may be run on machines by paleomagnetics lab workers or by researchers, training can be provided on any of the machines. Prices for running samples vary depending on the amount and instrumentation used. Rock cutting and sample preparation may be done within Sarkey's Energy Center as appropriate.
The paleomagnetics Laboratory consists of a (1) 2G Superconducting Rock Magnetometer with DC SQUIDs a (2) AGICO MFK1 Kappabridge for measuring magnetic susceptibility and anisotropy, an (3) Impulse Magnetizer for isothermal magnetic remanence acquisition, and an (4) ASC Thermal Demagnetizer that can stepwise (in 100C or greater increments) heat samples. All machines can accommodate 2.2cm diameter rock cores or unconsolidated sediments. Samples may be run on machines by paleomagnetics lab workers or by researchers, training can be provided on any of the machines. Prices for running samples vary depending on the amount and instrumentation used.
