OU Named Among Top 50 Big Data Degree Programs Nationwide

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma is among the top 50 big data degree programs in the nation, according to College Choice, a leading online authority in college and university rankings and resources. At no. 20, OU is the only school in Oklahoma to rank in the top half nationally.

College Choice based findings on several sources that rated academic reputation, financial aid offerings, overall cost of school as well as the graduate success rates of students entering the post-college job market. These factors were weighed equally alongside data from other publically available sources, including U.S. News & World Report, the National Center for Education Statistics, and The top 50 list showcases schools that balance cost, reputation, and, ultimately, what their programs can offer students in achieving individual goals.

OU is also recognized by College Choice as being among the first public institutions to incorporate digital technology into higher education. In 2012, the university launched a digital initiative, One University, aimed at transforming the student experience through a series of new technologies and digital tools. One of the results of the initiative was an online social learning platform, Janux, which integrates online learning with social collaboration and community.

The university currently offers a Master of Science degree in Data Science and Analytics, an intensive program offered between the Schools of Computer Science and Industrial and Systems Engineering. The program integrates coursework that includes data analysis, data analytics and systems engineering. Designed to be flexible, it offers through Janux both fully online and on-campus options as well as full- and part-time enrollment. Students enrolled in the program gain skills to design and build tools to extract, assimilate and analyze data, and the systems understanding to predict and enhance future performance for enterprises across all domains of the private and public sectors.

In addition to OU, other top-ranked programs include those at Carnegie Mellon University, John Hopkins University and the University of California at Berkeley.
