Parent & Family Programs Session

At OU, we recognize that a student’s success is contingent not only upon them, but their community. And more often than not, that starts with their supporters, family, and guardians. In this session with our Director of Parent & Family Programs, Tracy Carlson, parents and families will have the opportunity to learn about the resources, best practices, and events related to their new student and transition to OU. Whether your student is a first-generation college goer or a fifth-generation Sooner, it’s important as the supporting unit to know when, where, and how to best communicate and assist in navigating your student’s tenure at their new home - the University of Oklahoma.

Campus Session Descriptions

During this time, you will meet one-on-one with an academic advisor. They will review your final high school transcripts, Concurrent Enrollment/dual work, AP/IB/CLEP courses and help advise you for the courses you need in your first semester as you work toward degree completion. These advisors are equipped to help guide you toward your academic goals, help curate your schedule, and assist you! At the end of this appointment, you will walk away with your first semester class schedule! So, it’s imperative you prepare accordingly by bringing your final transcripts, scores, and completing your assessments.

Guests are not allowed to attend this appointment and will have specific programming during this time while you are getting advised and enrolled.

Part of your academic journey and success is having a plan in place to pay for college. Our MidFirst MoneyCoaches are here to help you. During this time, you will receive information on FERPA, billing, bursar, scholarship requirements, and helpful tips. After, our MidFirst MoneyCoaches will walk you and your family through your individual financial success plan and how to utilize this free tool! This is a great time to ask questions and secure your plan, as a family, for paying for OU.

Curious to see some of the living options you will have to choose from? During this walk through tour, OU Housing & Residence Life will take you through Couch Center, Cross Village, and the Residential Colleges. We recommend this only for those who have not selected their rooms or have not been on an official campus tour.

Lunch will be provided at no cost to the student and their two guests maximum. This is your time to break bread with the OU Family, meet representatives from the Office of Student Life and Career Center, potentially find an on-campus job, and for our guests, our Parent & Family Programs Store will be open to purchase your OU merchandise.

They will also equip you and your guests with key information and guidelines of the OU academic standard, as well as help you prepare for academic success in college!
