My research focuses on the interface between soil science and biogeochemistry. I pursue fundamental research in soil carbon cycle- mineral weathering feedbacks and redox cycling in upland soils. I am particularly fascinated by low-oxygen processes in well-drained upland soils. I use this fundamental research on soils to understand the role soils play in modulating the global carbon cycle and terrestrial inputs (pollutant fertilizers, heavy metals, etc.) to surface waters. I use both manipulated laboratory experiments and in situ monitoring of instrumented watersheds to pursue my research questions.
