A group of instructors and master students from National Defense University visited the University of Oklahoma at the invitation of the Institute for Resilient Environmental and Energy Systems. NDU, a higher education institution funded by the Department of Defense, facilitates education, training and professional development of national security leaders.
The 16 NDU students visited OU to complete their master’s energy study course, learn technologies and understand challenges in energy technology, policy and decision making. During their visit, IREES hosted a seminar on hydrogen and geothermal technologies, led by Kasun Gunasooriya, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Gallogly College of Engineering; Tim Filley, Ph.D. director of the Institute for Resilient Environmental and Energy Systems and professor in the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy; Hanping Ding, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Gallogly College of Engineering; and Li Song, Ph.D, professor in the Gallogly College of Engineering and IREES faculty fellow.
The attendees also toured several research labs in the Sarkeys Energy Center, led by Steven Crossley, Ph.D., associate director of IREES and professor in the Gallogly College of Engineering, and Rynar Nygaard, Ph.D., director of the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy and Eberly Family Chair and professor of petroleum engineering.
Rouzbeh Moghanloo, Ph.D., associate professor in the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy and IREES faculty fellow, also led a tour of fracking site in Grady, OK. Pejman Kazempoor, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Gallogly College of Engineering, led a tour of his hydrogen combustion and fuel cell technology laboratory on OU’s south campus.
