Soonerthon 2019
Campus Activities Council raised $900,226.19 at their annual Soonerthon event for the support of the Children’s Hospital Foundation, part of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
The Campus Activities Council held their annual Soonerthon last weekend. It raised $900,226.19 for life-saving medical research, equipment, family support and care programs funded by the Children’s Hospital Foundation, part of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
Founded in 1996, the event has morphed from OU Dance Marathon run by the OU Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils to the Soonerthon run by the Campus Activities Council. The 12-hour event also covers the 12 months leading up to it, during which students set personal fundraising goals to meet. It is the largest student-led philanthropy at OU and is considered one of the Top 15 Dance Marathons in the country.
The Miracle Network Dance Marathon benefits the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a nonprofit organization that raises funds and awareness for more than 170 pediatric hospitals across North America. They strive to have 100 percent of the funds raised stay local to support local kids. Since inception, Miracle Network Dance Marathon has raised more than $250 million for kids across North America. Over the weekend of March 1-3, a total of $7,491,156.26 was raised by nearly 30 participating schools and universities. OU received the Extra Comma Club Award in 2018 for its efforts.
The Children’s Hospital Foundation supports the Children’s Hospital in serving all 77 counties in Oklahoma with more than 234,000 annual patient encounters. All funds raised through the foundation stay in Oklahoma.
