OU Center for Peace and Development Now Accepting Fall 2023 Fellowship Applications

Date

June 7, 2023

The OU Center for Peace and Development (CPD) is now accepting applications for the fall 2023 Security in Context (SiC) Research Fellows grant. All OU graduate students are eligible to apply, and selected students will receive a scholarship of $2,500 for the upcoming fall semester. Selected fellows are expected to be involved in the program from August 15 through December 31, with the possibility of renewal for another semester.

The CPD is a nonprofit organization that strives to advance knowledge of local peacebuilding efforts by collaborating with grass roots organizations facing challenges in post-conflict environments around the world. The SiC is an interdisciplinary initiative that conducts research and policy analysis on peace and conflict. The SiC Research Fellows grant will provide students with mentorship support and practical experience in their research of issues related to peace, conflict, and security on a global scale.

This fellowship offers graduate students the opportunity to develop their research, network with like-minded scholars and practitioners around the world, and gain practical leadership and organizational skills. During the fellowship, students will participate in CPD & SiC activities under the guidance of the CPD Executive Committee. They will also be paired up with faculty from the CPD and SiC network to receive feedback and other mentorship support. Fellows will also have the option to organize seminars, webinars and interviews, or review and curate content on the CPD/SiC website. At the end of the semester, fellows will organize and participate in a research seminar featuring graduate students from across the SiC network.

Applications for this fellowship are due on August 1st, 2023. To apply, send a letter of application (maximum 3,000 words) to Professor Demir detailing your research interests, qualifications, and the project you are proposing (which can also be a part of an M.A. thesis or Ph.D. dissertation). Highlight how your research and project fit with the interests of the CPD and SiC, and provide the names and contact information of two faculty members who can provide references. In the subject line of your e-mail, include “CPD-SiC Fellowship.”

Fellows will be chosen based on their fit with CPD and SiC interests by the Project Manager and the Executive Committee of CPD. The results will be announced by August 15, 2023. For more information, contact Professor Demir (fdemir@ou.edu) and Zermarie Deacon (zermarie@ou.edu), or read the full call for applications here.
