Dear friends of Gaylord College,
As many of you know, I am stepping down as dean of the college on June 30, the end of OU’s fiscal year, after eight years in the position.
My reason for doing so is simple: the march of time. In my case, another milestone birthday (No. 70) awaits. As an alum of the program myself, I firmly believe Gaylord deserves a younger leader with new ideas and a fresh perspective to take it to even greater heights.
What’s next? An interim dean will be appointed, followed by a national search to be launched this fall. The goal will be to have a new dean on board in summer 2024.
This is a very good job at a very good program at a very good university. I’m biased of course, but I have no doubt there will be plenty of outstanding candidates vying to be the next leader.
We’re lucky to work in the best building on campus. Our technology is good too. But it’s the people – faculty, staff, students, alumni and others – who make Gaylord a special place.
I am fortunate to have returned to campus, decades after being a student, to experience it first hand in this season of my life. This is the most satisfying job I’ve ever had in my long career.
My gratitude extends to many people – in Gaylord, at OU and beyond -- who have been on this bountiful journey with me. Please join me in supporting the college going forward, with new leadership and new opportunities. I’m convinced Gaylord’s best days are still in front of us.
