Sarang is a Higher Education and Student Affairs Postdoctoral Associate and lecturer in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Oklahoma. She has a Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego in Education with an emphasis on Higher Education.

Sarang employs qualitative and quantitative methods grounded in critical theories and asset-based paradigms to pursue three primary areas of research in higher education: (1) systemic injustices and inequalities within higher education, (2) critical consciousness and social justice leadership among diverse student populations, and (3) the internationalization of higher education and international students’ experiences within the broader contexts of unequal global power dynamics. As a transnational scholar, her work also examines systemic inequalities within the Korean educational system.

  • Examining how international students become racial and social justice advocates and allies
  • Examining international students’ mental health and advising experiences
  • Examining college access among racial and ethnic minorities in the Korean educational system through the Critical Race Theory
