Daniel Hamlin

Daniel Hamlin is an associate professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Oklahoma. In his research, Hamlin focuses on the effects of education policies related to student health and safety, parental involvement, school climate, and school choice. Hamlin’s work appears in peer-reviewed journals, including the American Educational Research Journal, Sociology of Education, the Journal of Criminal Justice, Educational Policy, and Urban Education. His research has also received coverage in the Wall Street Journal, NPR, Forbes, Marginal Revolution, The 74, and Chalkbeat.
  

He is the recipient of research grants from the National Science Foundation, the Ontario Ministry of Education, and the Mathematics of Information Technology and Complex Systems organization. He is currently Principal Investigator on a $3 million randomized controlled trial of high dosage tutoring in high school math.
  

Hamlin has moderated policy discussions with state governors, the American Federation of Teachers president, and superintendents/chancellors of New York City, Los Angeles, Miami-Dade, and Dallas public schools. Hamlin serves on the editorial boards of Leadership and Policy in Schools and the International Journal of Education Leadership and Policy. He is also regularly invited to review federal grants for the U.S. Department of Justice.
  

At OU, Hamlin received the College of Education’s Research and Scholarship Award in 2022 and the Pre-tenure Faculty Award in 2021. Prior to joining OU, Hamlin received the Derek Bok Award for Excellence in Teaching as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University. Hamlin earned his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto where he received the Ken Leithwood Outstanding Thesis of the Year Award for his dissertation.
