OU Announces Investment in Graduate Education at OU Norman

The University of Oklahoma has announced an unprecedented $6.2 million investment to increase base stipends for graduate assistants in Norman-based academic programs.

This contribution to graduate education not only fulfills a key objective outlined in Pillar 1 of OU’s “Lead On, University” Strategic Plan, but also increases OU’s competitive edge against peer institutions.

“In their roles as teachers and scholars, graduate assistants make critical contributions to OU’s mission to provide the best possible educational experience for our students through excellence in teaching, research, and creative activity,” said OU Graduate College Dean Randall Hewes.

This investment increases the Norman campus provost’s minimum for a 0.50 full-time equivalent graduate assistant appointment from $13,830 annually to $22,560 in summer 2024, allowing students to better meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.

The increase in the base stipend, combined with the cuts to annual graduate assistant fees on the Norman campus, allows OU to fully close the gap with peer institutions, fulfill its promise as a top-tier public research university, and recruit exceptional students to fill the growing needs of Oklahoma and the nation.

The stipend increases are available to graduate assistants in Norman-based academic programs. Questions may be directed to the OU Graduate College at gradinfo@ou.edu or (405) 325-3811.
