OU Announces Reimagined Commencement Format

The celebration of our graduates at Commencement has always been a meaningful tradition at the University of Oklahoma. In a continuous effort to enhance this celebratory experience for students and their families, OU is introducing a reimagined format for next spring’s graduation ceremonies.

Beginning in May 2024, OU will merge its one university-wide Commencement ceremony and 19 separate College Convocations into combined Commencement ceremonies. In the new format, the university will honor a similar number of graduates at each ceremony, and students will have their names announced as they cross the stage. Doctoral candidates will be hooded at the Commencement ceremony of the college that oversees their chosen program of study.

Each of these ceremonies will be held at Lloyd Noble Center unless otherwise noted, and will include all the pomp, circumstance, live music, and pageantry that makes this time so rewarding.

Ceremonies will take place from Tuesday, May 7, 2024, to Saturday, May 18, 2024. The complete Spring 2024 Commencement schedule is available here.

The university conducted research nationwide to identify best practices for Commencements and is dedicated to making this special occasion even better.

As part of the Commencement re-envisioning, the university is also planning a new celebratory event for all graduating students on Friday, May 3, 2024 – “Party at the Palace” – which will include fireworks, band, food, and more. Additional information will be shared in the Spring.
