The OU Graduate College is pleased to announce the 2023 Graduate Student Photo Contest winners!

“In the moment: Capturing the Graduate Student Life,” was the first photo contest hosted by the Graduate College and was open to all graduate students in Norman-based academic programs, including online programs and programs offered on the Tulsa campus. The competition sought photographs that captured spontaneous moments in the life of graduate students. The winners will receive $100 each.

In no particular order of merit, the winning photographs are:

What Are You Lookin' At?
Cameron Forehand, 2023

Too Pool for School
Russell Kenney, 2023

Graduate Life Outside Lab
Amit Singh, 2023

When The Class is Over
Felipe Flores, 2023

OU-Tulsa Got Chills
Hifza Afzal, 2023

Solitude
Ray Sumedha, 2023

Investigating Stories in Stone
Ethan Mofidi, 2023

The judges panel expressed their appreciation of the photographs, noting how:

Graduate Life Outside Lab, by Amit Singh, was chosen for the photographer’s ability to capture the interactions among students in a moment outside the lab.

Investigating Stories in Stone, by Ethan Mofidi,  was highlighted due to the photographer's ability to capture an intimate moment of the student's research life and the intentional, out-of-focus artistic quality of the subject in the foreground.

OU-Tulsa Got Chills, by Hifza Afzal, amused the judges with its lighthearted tone and attention to the background, including a colorful mural contrasting with the snowy scene.

Solitude, by Ray Sumedha, mesmerized the judges with its moody and evocative tones and by successfully capturing a moment of quiet introspection and peaceful solitude in a beautifully framed campus setting.

Too Pool for School, by Russell Kenney, embodies the spirit of the competition by freezing a moment of concentrated action and framing a scene of study and play.

What Are You Lookin’ At?, by Cameron Forehand, was chosen for its playful tone and the beautifully abstract quality of the close-up cracked terrain.

When the Class is Over, by Felipe Flores, captures a tender moment of relaxation in the busy life of a graduate student.

Congratulations and thank you to all who participated!
