NORMAN, OKLA. – Dr. Ralph Beliveau, a creative media production professor in the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma, has been honored with the 2023 Choice Outstanding Academic Title award for his co-edited book, “Screening #MeToo: Rape Culture in Hollywood.” This recognition is bestowed annually by Choice, a publishing unit of the American Library Association.

"Screening #MeToo" is a collection of essays co-edited with Dr. Lisa Funnell. The book delves into the pervasive nature of rape culture in Hollywood, and examines a broad range of films, focusing on the portrayal of sexual violence and its implications. From Saturday Night Fever to Revenge of the Nerds to the Connery-era Bond films, these essays challenges readers to view Hollywood films through a new perspective, considering the impact of power, sexuality, and consent in cinema.
