Set Your Intent to Graduate

All students graduating from the University of Oklahoma must apply for graduation through the Graduation Application link on the Academics tab in one.ou.edu. Master’s and doctoral students may submit their application within the year they intend to graduate.

Be sure to apply for the term you are planning to graduate by the term deadline:

OU-Tulsa Graduation Gear-Up

10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

During Graduation Gear-Up, candidates can:

  • Purchase caps and gowns 
  • Design and order your custom graduation announcements
  • Order their official OU class ring 
  • Take professional photos

If you cannot attend Graduation Gear-Up, students can purchase graduation gear directly from the Jostens website.

Orders much be placed by March 29 by 5 pm for delivery by the May ceremony.

There is a $14.95 shipping fee.


Students may be awarded additional stoles and cords based on their membership or participation in organizations. Please consult with your organization's president or adviser to determine if there are stoles or cords and available as well as where they can be purchased or picked up.

An OU stole is available for purchase at Graduation Gear-Up or at the Jostens store in the Sooner Shop (located in the Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium 1185 Asp Avenue, Norman, OK 73069 ) starting on April 9.

The OU Stole is $25.

Those graduating With Distinction wear a gold hood with their gown.

Distinction is based primarily on the student’s grade point average. Both the transcript and the diploma carry the designation. Graduating With Distinction or With Special Distinction is granted once all grades have been posted and degrees have been cleared. The final semester of academic work will be factored in and distinction will be granted, adjusted, or removed based on this calculation.

SPECIAL DISTINCTION & DISTINCTION

• Combined Retention GPA (includes all courses taken with repeat, reprieve and renewal policies applied – Overall Transcript Total)

• Distinction – 3.60 – 3.89 Combined Retention GPA

• Special Distinction – 3.90 or above Combined Retention GPA

• Minimum of 60 hours taken at OU

• No disciplinary Academic Integrity action

Online only students may purchase a hood by emailing oklahoma@jostens.com by March 29. There will be a $12.95 shipping fee.

Academic Distinction Hood: $17.25 (sales tax not included)

Those graduating With Distinction wear a gold hood with their gown.

The With Distinction degree designation is conferred by the student’s degree-granting college.

Each college has established unique requirements for graduating With Distinction and With Special Distinction. Distinction is based primarily on the student’s grade point average. Both the transcript and the diploma carry the designation. The student’s academic records will be reviewed for anticipated distinction based on grade point average at the end of the semester prior to participating in graduation ceremonies. Students may wear the gold Academic Distinction hood based on this anticipated status. Graduating With Distinction or With Special Distinction is granted once all grades have been posted and degrees have been cleared. The final semester of academic work will be factored in and distinction will be granted, adjusted, or removed based on this calculation. Contact your academic advisor for specific requirements and questions.

Undergraduate students with an overall 4.0 GPA are eligible to receive a 4.0 University medallion on a crimson ribbon.

Students must have a 4.0 on all OU work and on any work transferred from other institutions, including concurrent enrollment taken during high school. They may wear the medallion during Commencement exercises.

In addition, their names will be listed in a special section of the May graduation program, and they will be invited to attend a special 4.0 University medallion presentation.

All 4.0 medallion students are also eligible to wear the gold Academic Distinction hood or the crimson Honors hood with their gown which may be purchased for an additional fee (listed above).

Students who qualify will be notified by the Graduation and Persistence Support oficce. University Experiences will provide information regarding the presentation. Presentations are held during the fall and spring semesters. If students are unable to attend the presentation, medallions will be mailed to you.
