2008 marked the 25th anniversary of the Division of Construction Science as a named program in the OU College of Architecture.  The program has earned a national reputation as one of the country‚Äôs best programs.  Success is due to talented, award-winning students, top faculty, dedicated alumni and the unparalleled support of the construction industry.  Since its inception, the Construction Science program has maintained a close partnership with the construction industry, an extremely important element in providing top-quality graduates who are in great demand by employers.

 

Chronological History of the Construction Science Program

1969
A professional program in construction science is authorized.

1973
Professor William Cleverly is hired to start the Construction Science Program, but leaves after one year.

1974
Professor Calin Popescu is hired to head the Construction Science Program.

1980
Professor Harold Conner replaces Dr. Popescu.

1981
The Construction Student Association begins.

1983
Construction Science becomes a named program within the College of Architecture.

1984
A Master of Science Degree in Construction Science is established.

1986
Professor Bill McManus joins the Construction Science faculty.

1989
A third faculty line is established.

1990
The Construction Science Program is fully accredited by the American Council for Construction Education.

1994
Professors Richard Ryan and Ken Robson join the Construction Science faculty.

1996
Professor Conner retires.

1996
The Construction Science Student Club wins the first of eight national awards, including three first-place and five third-place awards.

1996
The Construction Science Commercial Building Student Competition Team wins first of 31 regional awards.

1997
Professor Robson is named Director of the Construction Science Program.

1998
Professor Conner establishes first Construction Science Endowment: the Conner
Fieldwork Scholarship.

1999
Division Student Competition Teams win the first of four national awards, including back-to-back Commercial Building Competition National Championships in 2001 and 2002.

2000
Construction Science students win the first of six national all-hands essay competition awards.

2006
Tammy McCuen joins the Construction Science faculty.

2006
The Robert E. Busch Professorship of Construction Science is established.

2006
The OU Club of Construction Science is established.

2007
The Harold W. Conner Professorship of Construction Science is established.

2008
The Construction Science Board of Visitors Professorship of Construction Science is established.

2010
Lisa Holliday joins the Construction Science faculty.

2010
The program is named the Haskell & Irene Lemon Construction Science Division upon receipt of a $3 million gift from the Lemon Family.

2011
The Divison moves back into the newly remodeled Gould Hall.

2012
Rick Fobair and Matt Reyes join the Construction Science faculty.

2013
Somik Ghosh joins the Construction Science faculty.

2014
Anthony Perrenoud joins the Construction Science faculty.
