Accomplished Alumni

The education that students receive here prepares them for some of the top jobs, internships and graduate schools in the nation. Many of our students go on to work at companies such as Google, Vogue, ExxonMobil, Disney, NASA, Ernst & Young, Kate Spade, Entertainment Weekly and Toyota, just to name a few. Here are some personal stories from a few of our graduates to show where they are at now and how OU helped them get there.

Graduation

Josh Woodward, OU Class of 2006
Product Manager, Chrome OS at Google, Mountain View, CA

“As a senior in high school, I remember thinking that OU was full of possibilities. It felt like a place I could thrive if I worked hard enough, [and at OU], I learned a lot about leadership and the impact a dedicated team of people could make. I’ve applied those lessons in grad school and in my current role.”

Elaine Azlin, OU Class of 2008
Publicist at KCD, New York, NY

"I cannot overstate how valuable my time at the University of Oklahoma was. I grew tremendously not only personally, but OU gave me the stepping stones to succeed and make one of my dreams happen professionally – working in fashion public relations. My professors at OU taught me, above all else, how to learn and the importance of determination. They also taught me that developing relationships with people, and using my skills to help people is just as important as anything else academically. I would not be where I am today without the staff, my peers, various clubs and organizations and Sooner spirit without the University of Oklahoma. I wouldn't change a thing and grateful to be a Sooner."

Karly Fischer, OU Class of 2008
Executive Producer of Sanguine Theatre Company, New York, NY

"My time at OU was incredibly valuable in leading me to where I am today. I am currently the executive producer at a theatre company I founded in New York City as well as a graduate student at Columbia University. The University of Oklahoma was a safe haven where I was able to hone my skills around people who are not only professionals but who patiently encouraged trial and error. No idea was ever too big, and that turned out to be the foundation on which I am able to live my life today.”

Breia Brissey, OU Class of 2010
Social Media Manager at CBS, New York, NY

"For me, it was always OU. I knew I wanted to major in journalism, so I set my sights on OU at an early age and never looked back. Looking back on my time at OU, I credit most of my success to the experience I got on campus at OU's Student Media. The time I spent there shaped me into a better writer, and gave me all the applicable skills I needed to go out and land my first internship at a non-OU publication. From there, I just worked my way up."

Braden Hail, OU Class of 2012
Facilities Engineer at SandRidge Energy, Oklahoma City, OK

"Earning my degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma has provided me with the life and leadership skills I needed to succeed after college in addition to opening doors to new opportunities. I was recruited directly from campus to work as a Facilities Engineer at SandRidge Energy in Oklahoma City, which is a great experience. A degree from OU is highly valued by companies in every industry and with that you are entering a vast network of professional alumni that is not only within the U.S but international as well. I strongly recommend the University of Oklahoma to those with strong ambition and the desire for success."

Tim O'Donnell, OU Class of 2013
Sports Anchor/Reporter for KXXV, Waco, TX

"OU and the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication landed me where I am today. Whether it was the experience I gained with OU Nightly and Sooners Sports Pad, or helping me land internships in Dallas, TX and Oklahoma City, what I learned while I was there was invaluable. The professors and professionals that work within the college are some of the best in the business, and if I did not go to OU, I would not be working in the 88th biggest market in the United States straight out of college. I will always look back on my time at OU and know that I would not be the person I am today without the help and guidance of Gaylord College."
