Research Concentration

Weekly Research Meeting

All students and faculty meet once a week for a 1-hour research meeting. A light lunch is provided. The primary objective of the meeting is to discuss recent results the students have obtained during the course of their research and seek feedback from the faculty and other students. Presentation of contemporary research reported by others is another topic that a student can address during the meeting.

In addition to reporting new results, the research meeting is also a vehicle to improve and polish communication skills, especially for the international students. Every student is assigned a date to present his or her work. The student is required to submit an abstract of the presentation two weeks prior to the allotted date.

The research meeting also hosts guest lectures by leading practitioners in telecommunications.  Past guest lecturers have included school alumni, professors from other universities, and business leaders. These lectures help students find their career path, research directions as well as awareness of the job market and career opportunities.

Electrical and Computer Engineering Labs

The OU-Tulsa ECE Program has world class research labs dedicated to the areas of photonics, quantum optics, wireless networking, electromagnetic compatibility and interoperability. TCOM researchers have had extremely productive collaborations with colleagues in Norman, in the OU-Tulsa College of Medicine and at the University of Tulsa in fiber optics, medical devices and network security. Students learn and use the technique in the interoperability verification in a hands-on training envirnment. The interoperability lab encompasses five domains of telecommunication: PSTN/Legacy, wireless, optical/photonics, IP and ATM.

Following are the main labs at OU-Tulsa:

Photonics Lab
The Photonics Lab at OU-Tulsa supports research and graduate education in photonics.  The lab contains a variety of instrumentation for test and measurement of photonic components, subsystems and systems.  The lab also contains optical and mounting components to enable prototype optical system assembly and test.

Wireless and Electromagnetic Compatibility and Design Center
Electromagnetic compliance is often a lengthy expensive process. To this end, the Wireless and Electromagnetic Compliance and Design Center (WECAD) offers customers a wide range of testing with relatively low costs.
