Financial Aid Resources for Graduate Students

From research assistantships to government fellowships, numerous financial assistance opportunities are available for qualified students seeking advanced degrees with the College of Engineering.

When applying to a graduate program it is important for students to explore all funding opportunities. Provided are brief synopsis of assistantships available with each shool or program, but be sure to check with the individual schools and programs for further information and application procedures.

Research assistantships are awarded to students who have a strong academic background and demonstrate an interest and proficiency in research.

These appointments are typically funded by research grants made to faculty members by industry or governmental agencies. Many times a research project to which the research assistant is assigned eventually leads to a thesis or dissertation topic.

Please follow the links to individual schools and programs for more information.

Teaching assistantships are awarded by academic schools and are available to students with proficiency in teaching.

These positions generally require the performance of teaching-related duties such as grading, conducting recitations and laboratories, and occasionally teaching undergraduate classes. TAs are required to attend various training sessions and workshops sponsored by the university. In addition, teaching assistants who speak English as a second language must attend training sessions and pass the language proficiency tests sponsored by the English Assessment Program (EAP)  in the graduate college.

Please follow the links to individual schools and programs for more information.

To recruit and retain the most capable, creative, and innovative advanced-degree candidates, the College of Engineering at University of Oklahoma provides many fellowship opportunities.

the College of Engineering has been able to secure a number of centennial fellowships. The maximum amount of each fellowship will generally be limited to $5,000 per year and renewable for up to a total of three years. To receive a Centennial Fellowship, each recipient will need to have a base stipend. Incoming students must have completed the application process to be eligible. The Centennial Fellowships are primarily intended for domestic doctoral students. A limited number of exceptionally qualified international students may be considered. For more information, please contact Dr. Musharraf Zaman at zaman@ou.edu.

Each school may offer their own fellowship to outstanding graduate students. Please refer to the school websites for further information.

The federal government provides many funding opportunities for the graduate students to support their graduate research. Some fellowship opportunities with different federal government agencies are listed as follows. Graduate students are strongly encouraged to seek these funding opportunities from the federal government.
