PROJECT PREFERENCES: Deadline:
Friday January 22 at 12:00 pm, through e-mail. THE RULES FOR CHOOSING PROJECTS ARE INCLUDED IN
THE DOCUMENT THAT YOU CAN DOWNLOAD AT:
http://www.ou.edu/class/che-design/a-design/b_project.htm.
In addition to the project please also e-mail me your free time, so I can
schedule meeting times. Include Weekends, especially Saturdays...
-
GROUP MEETINGS:
We will have kick-off meetings, starting Monday Jan 25. In
the second meeting (week of Feb 8th), you need to make a PowerPoint presentation about the material you
gathered so far and give an idea of how you will address the project, divide the
work, etc.
-
E-MAILS: Never send me an e-mail with the message in an attachment. This is
true for reading assignments, peer evaluations , journals, etc. Use
attachments for large documents (projects papers, etc).
-
E-MAILS-2: Never send me an e-mail with two different subjects. I know it is a
pain for you, but since I may have to forward your mail, store it in folders
et., so use the one-mail-one-subject rule.
- SUBMITTING
JOURNALS: Use e-mail directly to
me. Remember: no attachments
-
COMPUTER PROBLEMS: Any problems
you have with computers in M206, e-mail Robert Page (robertpage@ou.edu), CC me. You can also call IT at 5-4409 to follow up.
- PASSWORDS: These are for the
grade inquiry. I will announce the ID/password structure soon.
- ASSIGNMENTS 1: Zip all files and send them to the TA. Make sure they received it. Name of file should be ASSIGNMENT-1-YourLastName,
ASSIGNMENT-2-YourLastName, etc. Any other file that does not have this format or is something else than
a homework will be ignored and likely deleted.
-
ASSIGNMENTS 2: You can discuss
assignments with others. Discussing means clarifying issues, discussing, in
general, what tools are needed. etc, but nothing beyond that. SPECIFICALLY:
YOU CANNOT LOOK AT OTHER STUDENT ASSIGNMENTS TO LEARN HOW THINGS ARE DONE, MUCH
LESS, OF COURSE COPY THEM. If you are stuck with something, ask the TA.
-
ASSIGNMENTS 3: Sharing individual assignments by distributing work (you do problem 1, you do problem 2, etc) is strictly
prohibited and will be considered as CHEATING.
-
"CROSS FERTILIZATION": Copying, splitting the work in
homework, doing it together, etc., is, I am being told, believed to be “not big
deal”, “not affecting learning” or similar thoughts. I was suggested
that it would be a good idea to remind everybody that the rules for assignments
should be strictly followed, that is, when they are individual, they ARE
INDIVIDUAL. It is my experience from the past that after catching a student in
wrongdoing, they would say that I am being too harsh, that they did not know,
and worse, that I did not actually catch all the others… etc. I implore you
guys: please do not engage in any wrongdoing thinking that it is not a big deal
or something like that, especially if you are running out of time. It is
preferable to come and talk to me if you have special problems than cheating…
We intend to stop these practices, so this is a serious matter that you should
not underestimate. CHEATING
makes me very,
VERY, VERY, ANGRY. I intend to use
the student code to its full extent. I have done so in
previous years.
-
GAMS: GAMS has the defect that it does not close the files when you close the
program, so if you are working on GAMS assignments, please close all your files
before closing GAMS. Likewise, keep your files for yourself and do not store
them in places others can have access.
- COMMUNICATIONS WILL TAKE PLACE THROUGH E-MAIL FROM NOW ON
